Mayorga struggled during all of the construction that South Silver Spring had. That is largely over now. There are a lot more people living here now and it's easy to get to the old Mayorga space again. Ironically, that space would probably do quite well as a cafe.

I believe that if this place does well, we'll see the other retail left open fill up pretty quickly. East-West is prime location. It just takes some pioneers to show people what is possible.

There are some places going into the retail in the area. With more housing coming online, we should get more retail and more foot traffic. We still need more housing in South Silver Spring to support more businesses though.

I looked into this, and I don't see how this works, unless the Veridian can perform construction on the interior side of the building that faces the garage. You couldn't have people coming out of the front of building and walking shopping carts or carrying bags to the garage. That just wouldn't work.

While many of us would walk to Trader Joe's, the store would need parking and the ability for people to park to easily get carts to their cars. I don't know if the Veridian would allow construction to convert the garage facing part of the building, but if not, I don't think it would work.

More likely, that space would be good for a few restaurants, perhaps a micro-brewery. We also badly need a coffee shop in the area.

I love Trader Joe's, and would like the ability to not have to go all the way to Whole Foods to get good food, but I just don't see how this space could work. Has anyone asked the people who run the Veridian about this idea?

A Harris Teeter has been proposed for that new development around 16th and East-West. That would be an easier walk than Whole Foods for us. If that is going to happen, I don't see another grocery store moving into this market. Ideally, Giant would be replaced.

The Veridian space would be perfect and there is more than enough parking here. We have more parking space than we do anything else. Or build up over the Myorga space. That whole corner leaves lots of room for development. So many of us in the neighborhood, a large portion, don't have the chance to shop at any Trader Joe's or Harris Teeter because we've chosen the city life and don't have cars. We are dying for a new grocer, biting at the nip, in fact!

Let's ask embarrassing questions to the parking mavens of Rockville: who benefits? where's the money? WHO BENEFITS--where are the results of a usage survey? a "needs" statement? Discovery has been here since we moved in to 7981--why the sudden "demand?" what about the large Latino church that uses the garage on Wed eve and Sun morn? Plus the congregants of St Mary's and Ethiopian Christian church across the street. When did Parking poobahs consult the community? Where is Council person irwin? WHERE's the $$? The County gains $240,000 per year or $657 per day. Divided by 300 spaces, that's about $2.19 per day for each parking slot. In other words, non-residents who happen to work at Discovery park their cars for 10 cents per hour!
Meanwhile, where's the money from our property taxes used for community benefit?
I don't want South Silver Spring to be the Houston of the East--"pave & build" regardless of impact on water supply, power grid, etc. In conclusion, this plan does NOT benefit those of us who settled in South Silver Spring 7 years ago, nor does it demonstrate prudent use of our exorbitant property taxes.

i went there for my sons birthday party and it was terrible the food is crappy and they have bad customer service and the songs were songs from 2000 im warning u dont go there

And their remains the problem, I believe, that the fifth level would not be available to the public since Discovery plans to gate off its floors. This has not been through through.

One concern that should be addressed is that the remaining public spots in the garage are free during most of these non-traditional hours. Discovery employees would likely park in these free spots on the lower levels rather than continue the drive up to one of the leased levels, without an incentive not to. This would create a real decrease in the number of spots available to the non-Discovery population.

Many employees at the Kennett St Discovery office work non-traditional hours when Metro and Marc trains are not running and would be stranded if they did not drive their car in to work. That has nothing to do with being "green." I'm sure most 9-5 employees utilize public transportation but for those who don't (and there are many), they would have no way home.

Why on earth is Discovery procuring ANY parking spaces for their employees?! Two blocks from a metro station/marc station/bus terminal?! And what happened to being "green" or was that last year's flavor and not something Discovery HQ actually endorses?

They say they will take "Much of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th floors of the 5 level garage," but if they install the promised/threatened "security gate," how would non-Discovery folks get to the top level, a big piece of what they SAY they are not taking?
